“Although this has been a very difficult year in many ways, I am very grateful. Sixteen months ago, our family was lost. Our son was caught in a spiraling down nightmare of addiction. It was truly a nightmare for the entire family. We had no idea what to do or where to go. My daughter heard about New Life House and I called. I spoke with Howard for many hours. Most of the time, I was crying or in utter despair. Finally, at an ultimate breaking point, our son agreed to enter the program.
Since then, so much has turned around. The program has done more for my son than I could have imagined. He has learned about himself and has gained many insights into his addictive behaviors. He has matured and gained self-confidence, integrity, and faith. I am amazed at his personal growth. When our son first went into the program, I was speaking to a mother and I mentioned the cost. She was very kind and she said, “It is worth it. This is the best college education you could ever give your son.” Honestly, she was entirely right. My son has learned so many life lessons that I had hoped he would have gotten, but didn’t due to his addiction.
One thing that I have appreciated is that New Life encourages and provides a venue for family participation. At the beginning, I just thought my son was going to work hard at the program. I have come to find out that I need to be involved in work for myself. I need recovery as well. I have very much benefitted from weekly meetings that house families attend. I appreciate knowing other family members and I feel supported. It is important to know that there are groups, such as Al-Anon, that are there for me.
New Life has been life changing for our entire family. My son is a graduate, but we all know that the program goes on. He is still involved in the house and I continue to see positive growth. This program has given us all hope, faith, and direction for our future.”
