Drug & Alcohol Detox Services in Los Angeles, CA
Detox first, recovery for life
When you begin your recovery journey from substance abuse, it’s common to start with detoxing from the substance and withdrawal symptoms.
We proudly partner with our sister company, Clear Behavioral Health, a residential detox treatment center in Los Angeles, to provide substance abuse treatment and medical detox in a safe and comfortable environment.
Once you have safely detoxed and stabilized at one of Clear Behavioral Health’s treatment centers, you will have a seamless transition into New Life House’s structured recovery program for young men.
Why detox from drugs or alcohol?
Detoxing from drugs or alcohol is necessary before beginning a residential or structured sober living treatment program. Trying to quit substance use cold turkey is dangerous and could lead to life-threatening consequences.
Due to this, detox programs are recommended for your comfort and overall safety. Detox is the first step of your sobriety path, and sets the stage for deeper therapeutic work to be done as you continue your recovery journey.

Who needs to detox before entering New Life House?
Detox is for anyone struggling with substance use disorder who needs help managing withdrawal symptoms, so you can start building your life in recovery on a solid foundation.
A few examples of someone who needs a detox program are:
- Currently using and physically dependent on drugs or alcohol
- Experiencing physical, emotional, or psychological withdrawal symptoms
- Inability to quit on your own
- Using substances with dangerous withdrawal risks
- A clinical assessment recommends it
- Medication is needed for support

Medical detox through Clear Behavioral Health
Our partner, Clear Behavioral Health, takes pride in providing a high standard of detox care with 24/7 medical supervision, medication management for withdrawal symptoms when necessary, and access to substance abuse and mental health experts in comfortable, safe, and therapeutic homes near the Pacific Coast.
They have been helping young men detox from various substances since 2015, and will support you through withdrawal symptoms from alcohol, opioids, benzos, heroin, and other drugs.
Common withdrawal symptoms while detoxing
There are a few substances that require inpatient detoxification, and with each, different withdrawal symptoms are expected.
Alcohol detox can be dangerous; withdrawal symptoms may include seizures and, in severe cases, can be life-threatening.
That’s why medically supervised detox is critical. A structured taper and immediate medical support help reduce risks and ensure a safer, more comfortable experience.
Opioid detox involves substances like fentanyl, heroin, and oxycodone. While opioid withdrawal is typically not life-threatening, it can be extremely painful, physically and emotionally.
Medical detox provides medications and support that ease symptoms, helping individuals get through this challenging stage safely and with dignity.
Benzodiazepine detox, such as Xanax, Ativan, or Valium, requires medical supervision due to the risk of seizures and other severe withdrawal symptoms. These medications must be carefully tapered under medical guidance.
Supervised detox not only ensures safety but also offers supportive medications to minimize discomfort and reduce relapse risk.

What makes New Life House different?
New Life House offers age-specific sober living for young men. By living with peers who are in similar life stages and facing similar challenges, you can develop meaningful connections and receive accountability that strengthens your recovery.
Additionally, our recovery community is what makes New Life House special. We have been around for over 40 years, and during that time, we have cultivated an active alumni community that hosts events and stays involved with the program. At any given time, there are graduates still coming around who have 5, 10, and even 15 or more years of sobriety.
Why age-specific?
One of the foundational tenants of New Life House is our focus on age-specific recovery. Often, young adults are placed in sober living environments with individuals much older than them, who have radically different life circumstances to contend with. We find that by surrounding young men with healthy peers, they are able to relate, build a powerful community, and enjoy long-lasting friendships and support as they move forward in their lives.
Do you focus on life skills?
For young men struggling with substance abuse, mental health, or failure to launch, missing life skills are one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle.
Our program addresses these issues by teaching practical skills such as budgeting, cleaning, cooking, and time management. These life skills prepare you for long-term independence.
What kind of clinical support do you offer?
Through our partnerships with Clear Behavioral Health and Neuro Wellness Spa, residents have access to psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, licensed therapists, medication management, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy, and a therapeutic outpatient program that focuses on emotional growth, accountability, and building tools for sustainable recovery.
Whether your primary struggle is substance abuse or mental health, our recovery model ensures you receive the care and support you need to heal both.
Is there academic or educational support?
From finishing high school to higher education, one on one attention, diverse educational pathways, and a dedicated Director of Education make the New Life House academic program a source of guidance, structure and support that enables our residents to move forward academically.
How about jobs and employment support?
Entering and navigating the workforce in recovery carries its own set of challenges, all of which New Life House helps you address. From the process and skills involved with actually finding, preparing for and interviewing for a great fitting job, to achieving the best work performance possible, you are set up for success.
How are families involved?
Family involvement is a cornerstone of our approach. Families participate in our 90-Day New Family Program, bi-weekly family groups, ongoing Parent Guide mentorship, and family events designed to foster healing and communication.
We also offer opportunities for you to go on passes with your family so you can work on rebuilding those relationships little by little.
What continuing care or alumni support is offered?
Graduates stay connected through alumni programming, including weekly house meetings, mentorship opportunities, group outings, and ongoing fellowship that reinforces long-term sobriety.
Who makes up the treatment and support team?
You will benefit from a holistic team that includes house managers, program directors, and educational mentors who have gone through the same process, as well as therapeutic staff through our clinical partners. This team works together to provide structure, accountability, and emotional support.
