Frequently asked questions
How long do clients typically stay in sober living?
Most clients stay between 3–12 months, depending on their goals, progress, and the level of support needed. Some choose a shorter stay to reinforce early recovery skills, while others benefit from a longer, structured environment as they transition back into everyday life. At New Life House, your stay is tailored to what will best support your long term success.
What’s the difference between sober living and rehab?
Rehab focuses on detox and intensive treatment, usually in a clinical or inpatient setting. Sober living, on the other hand, gives you a safe, substance-free home where you can apply what you learned in treatment to real life. It’s about building routines, practicing responsibility, strengthening coping skills, and gaining independence, with support from a sober community.
Do I need to complete treatment before entering a sober living home?
Most clients enter sober living after completing detox or primary treatment, but requirements vary based on your situation and clinical recommendations. If you’re unsure, our team can guide you toward the level of care that fits your needs and ensures a safe, stable transition through our partner organization, Clear Behavioral Health.
Can clients work or go to school while living in sober living?
Yes, and it’s often encouraged. Sober living provides structure and accountability so you can return to work, school, or volunteer activities while still having a strong recovery foundation. You’ll have house expectations and curfews, but plenty of room to build a healthy, independent routine.
What is the environment like inside the house?
You can expect a supportive, community oriented atmosphere where everyone is working toward the same goal: long-term sobriety. There’s structure, daily routines, peer accountability, and a sense of belonging. Clients cook, attend meetings, participate in house activities, and support each other through challenges and wins.
What kind of support does the staff provide?
You’ll benefit from a team of experienced health experts, mentors, and counselors who offer guidance, weekly check ins, life skills support, and recovery focused programming. The goal is to help you stay grounded, motivated, and connected while you build the confidence to thrive on your own.
Is sober living suitable for young adults?
Absolutely. Many sober living programs, including New Life House, are specifically designed for teens and young adults ages 18 and up, and offer age-appropriate support, structure, and community. Clients benefit from being surrounded by peers who understand what they’re going through and who are equally committed to recovery.
Can family members stay involved?
Yes. Family involvement can be a powerful part of recovery, and New Life House encourages ongoing communication, family therapy, and educational resources. The goal is to help loved ones understand the recovery process and support you in healthy, constructive ways.
