This Thanksgiving I am grateful for all I have been given from the 12 steps of AA. I have my family back, I am employable and for once, I am able to wake up in the morning and be comfortable in my own skin. I am happy with where my life is at.

When most of us think of Thanksgiving, we imagine a cheerful time shared with family and friends gathered around a table with food, smiles and amusing stories. However, when we have a family member who is struggling with addiction, the joyous state of thanksgiving becomes embroiled with shame, embarrassment, and even sorrow.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays of the year, not only for the fact that eating an obscene amount of pie is completely acceptable, but also because it is a day that is focused exclusively on gratitude and giving thanks for the people, places and things in your life.
