New Life House was established in 1985.
Founded in San Pedro by Perry Petacia, New Life House was formed to directly serve young men in recovery. An alcoholic himself, Perry had been through a recovery center that emphasized identifying and modifying self-sabotaging behavior. He opened New Life House with a vision of not just helping men abstain from alcohol and drug dependence, but rather transforming the lifestyles of alcoholics and addicts and teaching the life skills necessary to succeed.
New Life House was relocated to Artesia Blvd. in Torrance, California in 1987 to continue to serve men in recovery.
At that time, only adult men were entering New Life House. In the early 1990’s many families of teenagers and young men approached New Life House to help address their son’s addictions. At the time, long-term, resident services for teens and young adults were unavailable. Soon after admitting the younger people it became apparent that the disparity in their emotional ages, social skills, and life experiences were significant enough to require different approaches with each group of men for sobriety. In 1994, Perry separated the age groups and opened a second sober living house for men in Los Angeles to accommodate the older adults. New Life House’s success in working with young men began to take off once the guys began living with their own peers.
Our success and expansion.
New Life House has been recognized nationally by professionals in recovery as a model for structured sober living. We have a stellar reputation of providing young men with the tools for success and community support they need in order to live a productive and happy life no matter what challenges they encounter along the way.
Perry passed away in 2006 and passed his legacy to his protege, Mike Joly. Mike was mentored by Perry throughout his recovery and has been instrumental in the growth and success of New Life House.
Under Mike’s leadership, the demand for our recovery services has resulted in the expansion of New Life House. New Life House now consists of three high-quality structured sober living facilities. New Life House South Bay is composed of two custom built facilities that are specifically geared towards helping young men 18-24 years old. New Life House L.A. is located in the renowned Miracle Mile District and is geared towards men in their mid-20s to their mid-30s.
