When My Son Came Home to Start Cleaning Up His Past
When my son was due to be coming home for the first time in almost a year we were terrified. we needed to get him home for an outstanding warrant – it was time to start to clean things up.
My husband and I didn’t sleep for 6 days before he came home. Then the time came to do this. Thank God for New Life House!
We had a plan that they would send someone to support our son during the process – that certainly helped a lot.
He was going to come in on Thursday and leave on Friday. Well, we could not get a flight back to LA until Saturday night and I thought – what will we do with all of this time?
Well it flew by without a hitch. We had a great time together. Our son spent some time with my older sister when he came out and she told me that she knew I raised a good boy, but for the first time in years she had actually seen the child I raised. She could not believe the change in him for the better.
I have to say without New Life House, AA and the twelve step program I believe my son would have died. When I was looking for a sober living facility I really was not sure what to expect, except that they ranged from $15,000.00 to $4,000.00.
The reason we picked New Life House was because of the time that our son would be able to begin working. Little did we know that they did so much more than that.
They worked on helping him stay sober, on developing honesty and on giving him the ability to go back out into the real world as a proud young man, giving back and paying it forward.
I see my son around every three to four months and every time I see him, I see growth that gets better and better every time. It becomes harder and harder to leave after our trips.
Before New Life House I was hopeless – crying every day and wanting to run when I was around my own son. Today, I am so very proud of the man he has become & forever grateful to New Life House for giving us our son back & putting hope back into our lives.
