LOVE is New Life House’s grassroots movement to take service to the streets and directly help local families in need. The guiding principles of unity, recovery and service place us in a unique position to give back, when before we took too much.

12 Step Panel at Center for Discovery
New Life House began bringing a monthly 12 Step panel to the adolescent boys and girls at Center for Discovery. Center for Discovery provides residential treatment for teens and adolescents struggling with substance abuse. The guys at New Life House had a great time sharing their experience, strength and hope and made the commitment to continue to bring 12 Step panels to the program.

Random Act of Kindness
Graduates and house members and friends participated in a two-hour “Random Acts of Kindness” to the local beach communities of Manhattan and Hermosa. The guys went up and down the boardwalk, pushing carts filled with water, energy bars and LOVE hats, passing them out to passers by. Quarters were offered to shoppers pulling into parking lots and part of each group participated in a beach clean-up. All the guys agreed it was a blast to be nice for no reason at all. They can’t wait to do it again with more friends in recovery. Thanks to everyone who participated!
Feeding the Homeless
Graduates and house members joined My Friend’s House Foundation for charitable day of giving food and clothes to the homeless. The guys were excited to make a difference and build some new friendships from the foundation. They’re looking forward to going again soon! “It was great to help out and be of service today. We have a lot to be grateful for, and sometimes I lose sight of that. I’m glad we went to spread the LOVE and helped others less fortunate than us.” -New Life House Member
For Valentine’s Day, Graduates and house members participated in a two-hour “Random Acts of Kindness” experience to be of service to the local beach communities of Manhattan and Hermosa. The guys went up and down the boardwalk, pushing carts filled with water, energy bars and LOVE hats, passing them out to passers by. Quarters were offered to shoppers pulling into parking lots and part of each group lined the sand with trash bags, picking up and disposing of litter, making the beaches a little cleaner. All the guys agreed it was a blast to be nice for no reason at all. They can’t wait to do it again!
New Life House began 2014 by pledging 100% of the proceeds from the sale of their LOVE hats and hoodies to young men and women in order to afford the price of recovery. So many times we find that there are ample resources for the addict who has nothing and the addict who has everything but nothing for the young person in the middle. New Life House hopes to balance this out with needed scholarships for these guys and girls. Please visit our store and help a young person have a Second Chance at Life.
Christmas Toy Drive
“And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.” — Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
Christmas Tree Giveaway
The excitement of the Christmas season begins with a tree for many. Picking the perfect one, taking it home and decorating it makes everyone feel happy. The shiny scented bush becomes more than just a tree in someone’s living room. The sparkly decorations are mesmerizing, family’s gather around it and everyone wants to know what’s under it. A Christmas tree is pure merriment and one of the most fun parts of the holiday season.
Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway
One of New Life House’s favorite holidays….family is together, cooking, sharing stories, laughing and the house smells great. New Life House believes that every family, regardless of income, should be able to experience a Thanksgiving day like this.
The Boys & Girls Club Gala
New Life House was well represented at the 2013 Boys and Girls Club Gala in October. Mike, Avi, Martha and Elliot had a wonderful evening hearing stories from young members whose lives have been positively impacted by the help and support of the South Bay club. The heartfelt excitement in their voices and the evidence of overcoming challenges reaffirmed our decision to partner with an organization where donations go directly to the children.
Harbor Gateway B&GC
In September 2013 New Life House began a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Harbor Gateway Torrance (B&GC). The B&GC is in the vicinity of our South Bay houses and after our initial visit with Mike Herrera, Executive Director, we knew we had found the place where we could be of maximum service. We began by providing two new HP computers and a commercial laser jet printer that the kids in the area will be able to utilize for homework after school.
